WB: 20.4.15

Welcome back everyone!
It was lovely to see the children back on Monday looking refreshed after their Easter holidays.
This was a great introduction to our new RE topic, Holidays and Holydays as it gave the children the opportunity to share their exciting experiences with each other.
During our English lessons this term we will be focussing on fairy stories and this week we were reading Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The children then had the opportunity to retell the story using their own words which they did brilliantly.

This week in Maths the children have been exploring working with calculators. They have also used the 100 and 200 squares to look for patterns in numbers.
We will continue to have PE on Monday and Tuesday and on a Tuesday afternoon the children will be learning football skills with Mr Wells. They really enjoyed the experience this week and began by practising using different parts of their foot to keep control of the ball.  Afterwards the children had to decide who they were going to play football with. There were lots of opportunities for children to make decisions about how many players were going to be in each team.

It would be helpful if all children could bring in trainers to wear as we will be outside for many of the PE lessons this term.
During our key stage assembly the children heard all about Saint George. It was lovely to see our children dressed in their Rainbow and Beaver uniforms on Thursday. We heard all about the interesting activities that they enjoy whilst at the clubs and and what their badges represent.
In Science the children have been busy planting a dwarf bean. Over the next few weeks they will be observing the changes and keeping a diary to record how the bean is changing and growing. The children talked about what a plant needs for growth and our ECO reps, Lily and Xavier are going to remind us to water them regularly.

Through our topic work we have been discussing our food diaries and looking at the different food groups using the ‘eat well’ plate.  Next week we would like your child to bring in a piece of fruit on Tuesday because during our Design and Technology lesson we will be making our own class fruit salad.
The weather has been good to us this week and I think it is time that children should bring in a sun hat to wear. I would also ask that sun cream be applied daily before school.
Just to say a big thank you to those who supported my recent marathon challenge. I really appreciated your words of support, chocolate and donations for Cancer Research UK.
Enjoy the weekend!

WB: 30.3.15.

I cannot quite believe that yet again another half term has flown by. The children have worked extremely hard this half term so I am sure they are ready for a well-earned rest over the Easter holidays!
This week in Maths it has been ‘Financial Capability’ week so the children have been solving problems using money.

Our English this week has been cross-curricular with RE. The children had a lovely time acting out the events of Holy Week in the prayer garden.

Over the holidays the children have homework related to our new topic on ‘Keeping Healthy’.

Wishing you all a Happy Easter – see you on the 20th April
