WB: 21.5.18.
Can’t quite believe we have already completed one half of our summer term already – how time flies when you are enjoying yourself!
In Maths, we have been exploring different ways to make the same total using addition and subtraction. We have also used the ‘bar model’ for addition of numbers up to 20.
The children have enjoyed listening to the story of ‘Dougal the Deep Sea Diver.’  This has given them the opportunity to think about the setting and what type of character Dougal is. We will continue with this book after the half term.
We began our RE new topic on ‘Being Sorry’. This enabled the children to think about how their behaviour and actions can affect others. We have also been listened to the storiy of Levi and Zacchaeus and discussed the choices that they had to make whether it was the right or wrong choice.
In Science, the children have being finding out about fish, birds, amphibians, mammals and reptiles and have worked together to create some great posters.

During Art and Design, the children have created some fantastic work in the style of the famous artist, Frida Kahlo. They used oil pastels to create their very own ‘Viva La Vida, Watermelons’.

Have a good rest and enjoy the half-term holidays!

WB: 7.5.18.
What a busy time we have had the past couple of weeks.
In English, the children have enjoyed creating rhyming strings to use in their poems. Next week, they will have the opportunity to find out about ‘Dougal the Deep Sea Diver’. This story will enable the children to explore features of a diary, discuss characters and the setting in the text.
In Maths, the children have been using addition to explore different ways to total the same value using numbers 11-20.

On Thursday, we had a lovely time celebrating the Feast of the Ascension. The children used paper cups, cotton wool and images of Jesus to represent Jesus ascending up to Heaven to be with his Father.
The children have also been learning about the Feast of Pentecost. This has helped them to think about how the Holy Spirit guides them during their daily lives.

Next week, we will begin the new topic, Being Sorry.

In History, the children have been thinking about some of the greatest history makers of all time such as Guy Fawkes, Malala Yousafzai, Margaret Thatcher, Hatshepsut, Marie Curie, Grace O’Malley and Elizabeth 1. They have had the opportunity to discuss the times when these history makers lived and what their achievements were.
During Art and Design, the children used the pastels to create their ‘Sunflowers’ in the style of the famous artist, Vincent van Gogh.
I am sure you will agree the children’s pictures are amazing!

Next week, we will be finding out about the artist Frida Kahlo.

Don’t forget on Friday it is ‘Crazy Hair and Socks’ day.
Enjoy the weekend!
