Welcome to the Year 1 blog
The children have made a great start to the new term by settling well into their new class.
It is lovely to see so many of them come into school independently and begin their ‘early morning’ work with confidence.
This week In RE, we began our new topic on ‘Families’. The children have had the opportunity to talk about who is in their family and create pictures to reflect this. Tomorrow we will be looking at a psalm and afterwards the children will be supported to write their own.
During our English lessons the children have been writing lists and captions. They have enjoyed listening to the story, Class Two at the Zoo and next week we will focus our English lessons on this book.
In Maths, the children have been learning about position language and ordinal numbers. This has enabled them to discuss the position of an object using vocabulary such as left, right, next to, inside, quarter turn, half turn, first, second, third…

The children have also been using a ‘Tens Frame’ to develop an understanding of number. For example, each child was given a tens frame and six counters and asked to record how many different ways they could arrange the counters on the frame.

On Tuesday, the children voted for the ECO representatives and School Council representatives for our class and the results will be announced in assembly on Monday.

A big thank you to those people who have collected recyclable materials such as, cardboard boxes, egg boxes, tubes, cartons and yogurt pots. The children will be using these next week when they start designing their castle structures.

It was good to see so many of you at the new parents meeting last week. If you were unable to attend and felt there is anything you would like to discuss, then please do not hesitate to contact me.

See you tomorrow in your denim to support ‘Jeans for Genes’ day.

Have a lovely weekend!
