The children had a lovely time this week in our outdoor classroom.

The purpose of this activity was to use their senses to gain inspiration for writing autumn poems. On returning to the classroom they came up with lots of vocabulary to help them with their work. Below are some of the poems that the children wrote.

Next week in English, we will begin our non-fiction unit. We will be using the book, ‘Who Lives Here?’ which is a recount of four nature walks in the autumn, winter, spring and summer.
In Maths, the children will be using addition and subtraction to solve story number problems. They will be using the part whole method to record their answers alongside number sentences.
In Art and Design, the children have been mixing primary colours to make secondary colours. Afterwards, they used their imagination to create some leaf art.
Whilst learning about Judaism, the children have listen to stories about Abraham and Moses. They used pastels to create pictures showing how Abraham had put his trust in god and was rewarded with as many family members as the stars in the sky.

Our new RE topic on Waiting, will help us to understand how we can prepare ourselves during Advent for the birth of Jesus.

Have a lovely weekend!

It was good to see the children back looking refreshed after their half–term holidays.
This week in English, we started our Poetry unit which focuses on our senses. As the children were excited about the fireworks they had seen recently seen we began by listening to firework poems. The children thought about the words related to fireworks and attempted to write their own poem. Next week, the children will learn about how different poems are written and will work together to recite one.
In Maths, the children have been introduced to a ‘bar model’ to represent regrouping numbers into two or three parts.
Today, the children were exploring pentominoes.

Next week, the children will be counting on and using subtraction. Today, the children have been given their ‘Times Tables Rock Star’ login details and information on how they can use this website to support counting and the times tables 2s, 5s and 10s.

In RE, we have been discussing the symbols used during a Baptism. Next week, we will be learning about Judaism. The children will be learning about Abraham and the promise that God made to him.
After a lovely assembly in the hall today, the children created poppy pictures which helped them to reflect upon those people who have served our country in the armed forces. They also created individual poppies that went towards creating the centenary wreath in the hall.

Enjoy the weekend!
