We have had a busy time in in Year One.
In RE, the children have listened to Psalm 28 which tells us about God’s love and care. Afterwards, the children responded to this by writing their own.
During English, the children have been writing their own captions. They have also listened to the story of Little Red Riding Hood and used adjectives to describe the setting. We began our Phonic lessons this week and have been consolidating previously learnt phonic sounds. During our Handwriting sessions, we have been focussing on the ‘curly caterpillar’ letters - g, q, and e.
The children have been introduced to lots of new mathematical vocabulary and are gaining confidence using a ‘tens’ frame to compare numbers. They have also been using language such as more, less, fewer, bigger and smaller.
In PE, the children have explored different body actions through dance. I have been very impressed with how they have worked together in small groups to create, repeat and perform short dances.
This week, some of the children worked with Mrs Smith to explore sculpture using clay. The task for the children was to create a fairy tale character. This activity will be on-going and all children will have the opportunity to do this.
We were blessed with the weather today for our fun run. It was lovely to see the children run with enthusiasm for this worthy cause. Thank you for your support with this fundraising event.
Have a lovely weekend!
