Happy New Year to you all!
It was lovely to see the children settle back in after their Christmas holidays looking refreshed and ready for the new term ahead.
In English, the children have been working on the Jack and the Beanstalk text and Jim and the Beanstalk. They have been discussing the similarities and differences between Jack and Jim.

We have also been learning about suffixes and using ‘er’ and ‘est’ to describe our characters. For example, tall, taller, tallest, short, shorter, shortest.
During our Maths lessons we have been estimating, measuring and looking at the mass of an object. The children have been encouraged to use language to compare length, height and weight.

We have also been building towers with uni-fix cubes and exploring making them ‘twice’ or ‘three’ times as long.

Through our RE topic on ‘Special People’ the children have been able to reflect upon the special people in their lives who help them.
In Art and Design, the children have been finding out about the artist, C├ęsar Manrique and looking at some of his work.  From this, the children will be making a windmill and creating their own mobile.
We also introduced our new topic this week of ‘Unity in the Community’. We discussed what this meant and afterwards the children created some fabulous posters to represent the different things you may see in our community.
Enjoy the weekend!
