What a busy time the children in Year 1 are having!
In our English lessons, the children have continued to create work based upon the book, ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’. They have been learning about question marks and writing letters from the Giant to Jim.
Mrs Serra has been busy on the display with the children about the book and I am sure you will agree it looks amazing!
In Maths, we have been sequencing the days of the week and the months of the year. We have also been sequencing two digit numbers.
During our RE lessons, the children have been listening to stories from the Bible. They have learnt about Mary and Joseph taking baby Jesus to the Temple and meeting Anna and Simeon.
They have also created some beautiful work to represent the ‘Presentation of the Lord’ which will be celebrated this weekend at Mass.
In Art and Design, the children have made windmills and have begun designing their mobiles.
In Science, the children have been drawing and labelling parts of the plant and have helped Mrs Serra create a lovely display.
The beans that the children planted last week are just beginning to grow roots and shoot.
They have started to write a bean diary which they will complete each week.
Through our topic, the children have been learning about our local area. They have been looking at an aerial view of our school and finding out about some of the symbols on a map.
Next week, it is Children’s Mental Health Week 2020.
In class, there will be activities planned around this theme and we will be encouraging the children to think about life as taking a small brave step every day.
If your child would like to bring in something themed around ‘bravery’ then please encourage them to do so.
Enjoy the weekend!
